Building Color Palettes from Stories
The Sherwin-Williams curated palette of the week focuses on the colors that bring our stories to life. The Raconteur palette pulls inspiration from desert oases, safaris and spice markets.
Have you ever tried to take a picture of a sunset, but it didn’t quite capture its brilliance? It’s almost as if describing its beauty does it more justice, because for some reason the colors seem different with context. It’s the same sun you’ve witnessed every day, but the setting or story around the experience locks this particular sunset into your memory.
Sherwin-Williams palette of the week focuses on the colors surrounding our greatest adventures and the stories they produce. Tales that have been passed from grandmothers or friends who have traveled the world, painting a rich palette into our imagination.
The curated colors in Sherwin-Williams Raconteur Palette are from desert oases, safaris and spice markets. The hues remind us to capture our favorite moments and greatest adventures, reliving them in our design.

Products that spark joy (with stories)
Right after I got married, my husband bought me a table. We had just moved, got married and bought a house in Charlotte, North Carolina. Looking in local shops, I spotted a table I loved. Â The craftsman who created the table told me it had been built out of a 100-year-old Charlotte house that had just been torn down. I loved it, but it was a bit out of our price range.
My husband surprised me with the table right before moved in. Every time someone compliments it, I tell them that story. A century-old house is now in the house we had just built.
Furniture and decor have the ability to be more than just a functional object in your home. If you’re sentimental like me, I take my sentimental pieces and built around them. Whether you have a quilt given to you by your mom or image snapped from your favorite vacation, you can take these items and colors to create a cohesive design around your personal story.
