House of Nomad has been featured by HGTV, Domino, MYDOMAIN, and a ton more reputable interior design media platforms. So, I was beyond excited to sit down with them to talk about everything color and interior design. They are Charlotte-based, designs are so bold yet functional and they are not afraid of color. See the full interview below.
Tell me a little bit about House of Nomad?
House of Nomad (HON) is a full-service design studio located in the South End neighborhood of Charlotte in Atherton Lofts. We are passionate about creating contemporary inspired homes and offer several different services from 3D renderings/New Builds to our recently launched E-Design.
What makes your interior design approach different?
HON was really founded on the idea that travel fosters the best kind of creativity. We bring a fresh approach to interior design by designing authentic, inspired spaces at the intersection of the love of home and the love of travel. The design team takes two sourcing trips a year not only to get inspiration for our projects but to source unique things that come back with us. We have a shop at the studio on South End (by appointment), our online shop and several pop-ups a year for people to shop our finds! Our next pop-up is at Elizabeth Rose in Davidson, NC on March 16th from 10 am - 2 pm.
Is there a specific theme or feel to your design?
We love starting with a neutral base and then layering on textures, patterns, and colors. We typically like our rugs, pillows, and artwork to really pop (along with the lighting… one of our favorite things to design with).
Our designs lend themselves to a more modern, eclectic feel. We love styling in our finds from our travels like rugs from Marrakech and unique baskets from Thailand.
What is your favorite color trend at the moment?
We are big fans of teal… we have painted everything from our own design studio to bathrooms in different shades of teal (the richer the tone the better.) It works so well with brass that you can have an amazing powder room with just a few updates.
What color challenges do you find you run into with clients?
We find that darker colors seem to scare our clients from time to time. All white rooms are great, but there are certain spaces that want to be dark and moody. We love painting dining rooms, lounges, and bedrooms in darker, richer hues (and when we paint we totally commit to the color meaning walls, trim, doors, and ceiling!)
What brands or bloggers do you follow for inspiration?

- @wearepampa
- @jumbledonline
- @la_maison_marrakech
- @greenhouseinteriors
- @kellywearstler
What is the top color trend you’re most excited about?
We LOVE the popularity of pink right now and get so excited when our clients are ok with a little pop of pink! One of our favorite rugs from Morocco is 50 shades of pink and ended up at the studio (we couldn’t bear to part with it.)
What is your favorite local spot?
Our perfect day would be lunch at Superica (we live on chips and salsa) and then dinner at Good Food (where we had our first “friend date” and celebrate House of Nomad milestones.)
