With the world still taking this COVID-19 pandemic one day at a time, there are many ways in which we are trying to figure out how to store our key items of clothing or accessories we use after a full day of working around others.  Where should one store masks that need to be washed or new, clean ones to grab on the go?  Where is the perfect place to store backpacks filled with germs from a long day of school? Look no further than the perfect mudroom. Not sure how to get organized, use these tips to help you create a trendy mudroom that’s efficient and safe.

Get Organized: Mudrooms by Color or Initials

Have a home with more than one child or a big family?  Mudrooms with initials or that are color-coded are perfect so that everyone can have their own cubby or section to store their shoes, masks, backpacks, or lunchboxes.  This would be a great project to do with the kids by letting them paint their part with their favorite color or their initials!

Pick a Color and Go For It

Is your favorite color blue?  Use it to create splashes of color throughout the mudroom or on the walls or floors.  Create depth and add geometrics with your favorite colors with additional accessories like throw pillows, vases, bowls, or plants. Have fun with colored patterns and incorporate as much or as little of it as you desire within your mudroom!

Nothing Wrong with Neutrals

Not the biggest fan of color for your mudroom?  Keep yours as light and airy as possible with crisp neutrals.  Stark whites or greys with hints of color have been seen throughout many mudroom interior design projects in 2020, and this style is sure to remain as popular as ever in years to come. The feel and vibe with whites, greys, and beiges can create a sense of tranquility and calmness, which is something we all want to feel when first stepping into the home.

Own the Theme

Love a whimsical feel to your mudroom or one with polka dots from top to bottom?  Pick a theme and go full force with it!  Choosing a theme for the first room you see when walking into your home will make you never get tired of it. And, you can make it fun by switching the theme up every year or so.  Go from bohemian beauty to art deco delight or any theme your heart desires.

Fake It ’til You Make It

Don’t have a formal mudroom in your home?  No problem at all!  Turn any oversized cabinet into a mini mudroom.  This will allow more space for shelves to store all of your family’s shoes, hooks for backpacks and coats, and baskets, which can hold masks or other smaller items.
