Our Cave: Decorating in our Favorite Football Colors

We want to create an “Our Cave”, a place to watch football and movies, in the colors of our favorite football teams

My husband and I love football. We adopted each other’s teams when we started dating. He taught me about Penn State and I showed him why the Redskins are good enough to love. When I was a kid, I surprised my dad with a Redskins room for us to watch games in. Having three daughters, he didn’t really believe in “Man Caves”.

In the future, when my husband and I have space, we want to set up “Our Cave”. The place with the big screen to host parties or private viewings of the games versus the Cowboys or Ohio State. We don’t plan on buying any piece of decor from NFL.com. We simply want to incorporate our fandom into an impressive design.

Our Cave Colors

I’m not sure there have been colors more relevant to our lives than that of our favorite football teams. In the fall, we don’t need to think about what we’re wearing on the weekends. Burgundy and gold remind me of family and comradery. Blue and white remind my husband of tradition and history.

I’ve always envisioned a bar with bar stools for drinks and appetizers, as well as a built-in wall with shelves for family pictures. I want the space to be flexible for all types of events with the room to seat 15 people comfortably (I dream big). With Vishion, we can save the exact colors of our teams to our Vishion boards and proactively search and plan Our Cave.

Blending bold colors in design

To get my mind out of football and into the design, I usually look at existing designs on social media that plays with the colors I am considering. With Vishion, it’s easier to find decor that matches my palette. I use these images to help direct my searches, especially for larger items.

Color Finds

In my mind, I see the primary colors of the bar and built-ins being in the Penn State navy, with large furniture and wall colors in burgundy and gold. Where I can, I want to add patterns mixing the shades.

Hickory Rug from Lulu and Georgia

Plush Navy Pillow from Eastern Accents

Pulling in Your Favorite Teams

These colors present the ability to create a space where Our Cave can be used all year round. During the big games though, there will be moments where you might want to actually have some team flare present. Instead of buying a large Redskins fathead for your wall (which is what I did for my dad’s man cave), get more purposeful with accents and images in the room.

Personalized your space with pictures of your fandom, like this childhood picture with my dad and sister. Frames from West Elm.

Love it, you’re awesome! Love the “our cave” idea, however, my wife couldn’t care less about sports. She does support the teams I like and wears their colors.
